Who
The client is a global IT giant that provides hardware,
software, and technical services to its clients. What
The client releases upgrades to existing software products
frequently, and rolls out new software and hardware products
almost yearly. The associated user guides and instruction manuals
have to be created and updated in a timely manner. In order
to facilitate the use of new software/hardware for customers
in China, the client hired several local translation vendors
to localize new product documents into Chinese. However, some
of these documents were quite lengthy. One large document, for
example, contained more than 50 million words to be translated
into Chinese. Moreover, the related technologies consisting
of mainframe, dedicated server, ERP, SOA, Middleware, Java,
C, Embedded technology, DB, Network technology, and wireless
technology also needed substantial technical background to localize.
The client wanted assurance that the quality of work from their
localization/translation vendors were good. The client lacked
the resources and skills to verify the vendors’ efforts. As
a result, the client hoped that a third party Localization Quality
Assurance (LQA) company could provide the service. After a thorough
vendor search, BizSmooth was selected for the task.
To LQA the documents, BizSmooth faced the following challenges:
Large volume
and broad technology coverage Volume
swings: The incoming volume was highly erratic, and the shipment
received had to be turned around as quickly as possible. Sometimes
the volume was up to one million words per day. Multiple
format and context: The formats cover html, xml, doc, txt, .jsp,
.java, .c, pdf, ppt and nsf, etc. Some of the documents were
extracted from software, and needed to be recompiled into the
software. Solution
BizSmooth set up a dedicated team consisting of IT field
experts, linguistic experts, review experts, and DTP specialists.
The team focused on: Analyzing
technology requirements of the project and assigning field experts
as technology leads for any particular technical area Assigning
DTP engineers according to the format of the documents Assigning
the linguistic expert to review the documents Developed
software to generate LQA analysis report including error category
distribution profile and their possible causes to expedite the
process Well
rehearsed schedule for all linguistic, format, technical review
to take place concurrently with LQA to shorten overall turnaround
time Benefits
Cooperating with BizSmooth, the client was able to:
